COURSE OVERVIEW

Computer Science & Engineering deals with the theoretical foundations of information and computation along with practical techniques for implementation and application. Computer Science engineers can contribute as Software Developers, Hardware Engineers, Database Analysts (SQL), System analysts or System Engineers, Security analysts, Business System Database Developer, Data Modeller, Software Quality Assurance (QA) apart from multi-disciplinary research.

Program Outcomes (POs)

  • PO1 Engineering Knowledge: Apply knowledge of mathematics, natural science, computing, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization as specified in WK1 to WK4 respectively to develop to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • PO2 Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions with consideration for sustainable development. (WK1 to WK4)
  • PO3 Design/Development of Solutions: Design creative solutions for complex engineering problems and design/develop systems/components/processes to meet identified needs with consideration for the public health and safety, whole-life cost, net zero carbon, culture, society and environment as required. (WK5)
  • PO4 Conduct Investigations of Complex Problems: Conduct investigations of complex engineering problems using research-based knowledge including design of experiments, modelling, analysis & interpretation of data to provide valid conclusions. (WK8).

  • WK1 A systematic, theory-based understanding of the natural sciences applicable to the discipline and awareness of relevant social sciences.
  • WK2 Conceptually-based mathematics, numerical analysis, data analysis, statistics and formal aspects of computer and information science to support detailed analysis and modelling applicable to the discipline.
  • WK3 A systematic, theory-based formulation of engineering fundamentals required in the engineering discipline.

Driving Innovation Through Research and Real-World Impact.

The Research Centre at the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, BMSIT&M, was established in 2014 under Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) with the objective of promoting advanced research and innovation in core and emerging areas of computing. Since its inception, the centre has actively contributed to quality research in domains such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, data science, cloud and edge computing, cybersecurity, Internet of Things (IoT), computer vision, natural language processing, blockchain, and software engineering. Supported by a team of experienced and research-active supervisors, the centre hosts both part-time and full-time Ph.D. scholars working on interdisciplinary and application-oriented topics including smart healthcare systems, intelligent transportation solutions, predictive analytics, secure communication systems, and AI-driven solutions for societal challenges. The research outcomes are focused on addressing real-world problems in technology, industry, governance, and sustainability.

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering at BMSIT&M nurtures a vibrant culture of undergraduate research, innovation, and entrepreneurship, encouraging students to design and develop technology-driven solutions for real-world problems. With strong mentoring from faculty members, students have demonstrated excellence in national-level hackathons, coding competitions, research forums, and innovation challenges.
